Question

Darlintonia
Allexperts,

Hey I have another question about dormancy for Darlintonia.   This one is about
repotting.  Can I repot the plant in December or January?  Would that be bad for
the plant?  Also is there a good substitute for lava rock?   The plant Currently is
in 1 part Spaghnum moss and 2 parts peat moss.    I got the plant at Lowe's.  I
live in USDA zone 7.   Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin

Answer
Hi Weylin,

More perlite or pumice can be substituted for lava rock.  We are starting to steer away from lava rock in Darlingtonia mix.  It's hard to find in some areas, and it doesn't seem to be of much benefit.

Replanting in the winter is just fine.  Just minimize the disturbance of the roots.

Good Growing!
