QUESTION: Allexperts,
Hey I have a question about what type of soil mix I should use? The mix that
you guys have on the website; is that the only mix that is ok for Darlintonia?
Could I use the Butterwort mix? Is there other mixes you have tried ? Thank
you for your time.

ANSWER: Hi Weylin,
The soil mix we recommend produced the best results. It's beyond the scope of this format to detail each soil mix we use and the results we got. Suffice to say, we prefer this mix over all the rest.
The important concept to remember is soil aeration. Whatever soil mix you choose, you need to make sure the soil is properly aerated. You can use a butterwort soil mix as long as the soil is aerated throughout the summer months. You can do this by have a constant drip system over your plants.

With the butterwort mix ,do I have to constantly have dripping over the plant.
Can I just pour water by hand daily? I am probably will not have this plant

Hmm... You're asking a question that might have certain assumptions. Given your climate, soil and watering method, I simply don't know. All I know is that in our climate, we have found the recommended soil and watering method to work best. We also have not experimented in growing this plant indoors. At this time, the most I can say is give it a try and see if it works for you. Because of the temperamental nature of this plant, I'm very reluctant in providing any advice outside of our recommendations. We've spent many years developing our horticultural techniques for this plant. You're venturing in an area that we haven't explored.
I have a customer in Michigan who grows his Darlingtonia outside in full sun. He uses our recommended soil and waters his plant twice daily.
I'm not sure if that helps, but following our guidelines is usually a safer bet.
