Carnivorous Plants/Dormancy between species

Question
Hi guys.

I am nearing the end of the installation of an in-ground bog garden.  When putting everybody to sleep for the nasty Ohio winter, should I plan differently for the native species vs. ones from outside the area?  I have some S purpureas and D rotundifolia from seeds out of a local bog and I would prefer to just let them do their thing but if I cover the bog for the winter, will they care?

I figure that once things get as cold as they do around here, it really won't matter but I feel weird about covering up and mulching plants that hail from 20 minutes away.  Should I just go ahead and cover everybody up and not worry about it?

Answer
Hi Brian,

It won't harm them to cover them up.  I'd recommend a thick layer of pine straw.  During heavy snowfall they would be covered anyway.  Just spray everyone with a sulfur fungicide before covering them up for the winter.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
