Question
I'm growing a heliamphora nutans typical and its

leaves are wilting. It's in a terrarium and I know you

guys don't recommend growing plants in a
terrarium, but it's opened to the fresh air and I have a

fungicide just in case. It also has a fan and a

growlight. The bottom of the terrarium has some

water and the pot of the plant is in a cup in the

terrarium so its not sitting in water. The soil mix I got it

in is 100% sphagnum moss. Can you tell me what I'm

doing right or wrong?

Answer
Hi Connor,

I don't think you're doing anything wrong.  If you check out our volume #3 DVD, you'll see that Heliamphora is one of the few groups of plants where we say that a terrarium may be appropriate.  We're going to do a podcast soon discussing our views on terrariums, and where that comes from.

Getting back to your plant, where did it come from?  How long have you had it?  Was it shipped bare root?  If shipped recently, did it have a heat pack?  What did the root system look like?  What is your light source (just saying "growlight" narrows it down to about 100 or so different lights called that :)), and what is the temperature in the terrarium?  Let me know about these things and we'll see if we can narrow down what is going wrong.

Good Growing!

PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
