Question
Allexperts,

What are some of the chemicals in rooting hormone that are good for getting platelets, with carnivorous plants?   I know you guys have used the product SuperThrive in your DVDs.  What are some others[rooting hormones] that could work that you guys have tried?  As always thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin Callery

Answer
Hi Weylin,

The hormones spoken most highly of are liquid dip types such as "Dip and Grow", or gel types such as "Olivia's Cloning Gel".  Powdered hormones seem to work the poorest, and I would add my vote to that.  We only use hormones on Nepenthes or SuperThrive in water solutions for sundew cuttings.  If you have any hydroponic stores in your area, they tend to be the experts on this subject.  You may need to experiment some since cp tend to respond a little different than other plant.

I've also used "Keiki Paste" which you can find online for inducing growth in dormant buds.  It contains cytokinin.  It works.

Good Growing!

PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
