Carnivorous Plants/drosera adelae

Question
QUESTION: Just a postscript. I cut the leaves off my D. adelae on Jan. 12. No leaves and the part showing seems to be turning brown, but it looks like a drosera adelae is growing up through the sphagnum at another location. Room 68-70 degrees, south window also augmented by 60w.flourescent bulb. Standing in a little less than 1 inch rainwater.

ANSWER: Hi Craig,

Yeah!  That is what should be happening.  It's beginning to grow back from the roots.  Once you see a few more sprouts, the grow will develop more quickly.

QUESTION: Little adelae plants look good. Should you cut butterworts back when you get them too, like drosera?  I have the same problem with them. They either dry up or rot when I get them out of the cube.

Answer
Butterworts don't grow back from the roots, so this treatment is more specific to adelae (and flytraps).  You will need to gradually acclimate your butterwort to lower humidity in this case.  You can research the AllExperts database for the acclimation process as we've answered it many times in the past.  You can also watch the process on Volume 2 of the Grow Carnivorous Plants DVD series.

PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
