Question
I have a Drosera adelae at my office that is under artificial light. I have thought about purchasing a timer for my light so I can leave it on for 12-14 hours, but would it be ok to just leave the light on 24 hours a day, or does the plant need a few hours of "dark" time?
Hi John,
Definitely get the timer. Most plants are not very tolerant of a 24 hour photoperiod since this is something that would never happen in nature. Plants have certain biological processes that happen during respiration and their dark cycle. Some special situations exist where doing this short term, such is in rooting cuttings, can be helpful. Most plants, however, don't like it.
