Question
I have my Nepenthes rafflesiana for almost four years now and its growing amazing, Its located on a small greenhouse, watered multiple times on the day to keep humidity... but I have a little concern, it's growing so good that Im worried is going to get too tall!

The vine is thick and strong and the plant is arround 3 feet on lenght, the leaves are huge and the pitchers go from 4 to 8 inches on size, if it keep geting biger at this speed I'm going to need a steep lader soon! it is there something that I can do to make it generate some off-shots and make it bushier?

Answer
Hi Fernando,

Sounds like it's time to take some cuttings.  You can clip rafflesiana quite a bit and it will shoot from dormant nodes.  Leave at least a foot of growth on your plant.  Since it's spring, it will recover fairly fast.  N. rafflesiana also roots fairly easily.  We have detailed instructions on our volume #3 DVD on that process if you've never taken stem cuttings before.  http://www.cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=38&products_id=...

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
