Question
Hello i just moved and i want to check if everything is ok.I set up a growing rack in a southwestern window with a compact fluorescent 25watt (100watt replacement) suplementing it . I have there a N.rafflesiana,D.dichotoma,and a cephalotus.I am putting my cephalotus in the fridge, AT NIGHT to cool off from day heat. My cephalotus is growing good with two growth points and about ten more leaves and pitchers since I got it from you, A few months ago, right now it has six growth points.I am going to put a N.truncata in there do you think it is ok?

Answer
Hi Yulian,

I would be very leery about using the refrigerator for this purpose.  Temperatures in there are between 32 and 40 degrees F.  That's way too cold for any Nepenthes and pushing the limit some on Cephalotus.  Unless you're seeing problems with your plant I'd just leave it alone.

To cool them some a small fan at night would help with some evaporative cooling, and you could water with very cool water before you go to bed at night.  Also, if you can obtain some live sphagnum moss, getting some of that to grow on the soil surface helps with root cooling.  Potting in a terracotta pot will also.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
