Question

Judith Hindle
Allexperts,

Hey I have a question about this judith Hindle.  Is this plant still alive.  I repotted the plant a 2 weeks ago.  It was in the standard mix plus play sand that turned white.  Which might explain why there is white stuff on the plant.   Also when I first put the plant outside I notice there was some botris mold growing on the plant.  I have also attached a picture.  Are Judith Hindles slow growing.  This the plant I had earlier asked about.  It passed the check list for survival. 1) Plant Rhzimone is hard.

Sincerely,

Weylin Callery

Answer
In cases like this, the most you can do is wait.  Sometimes parts of the rhizome dies off, which will cause the plant to be a bit slower in coming out of dormancy.  It's history of botrytis might mean that the plant is on the decline.  Make sure to spray the plant with a generous dose of sulfur fungicide.  You should see some new growth by mid May if a chunk of the rhizome survived.  If not, it may be time to toss the plant.

Good growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
