QUESTION: Hello. I have a nepenthes truncata that I bought from you guys back in February it hasn't pitcher since then and it's only grew one leaf since then with a pitcher but it still hasn't inflated and now all the leaves are yellowing and starting to die and I'm worried that it's going to die off now. I know it is a slowing growing species but it's been 4 months now and it only produced a leaf and no pitchers since. My growing conditions are 8 to 9 hours of sunlight behind a southwest facing window and watering with store bought distilled water every few days. No night time temperature drop. What should I do? Will it survive?  Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Ishan,

Here's a couple things to do.  First, you may actually have a location that is a bit too bright.  Indoors that tends to be unusual, but a southwest exposure is strong, so try placing other plants around your truncata so it is shaded some.  You don't want total shade, but to dapple the light.  Next, you need to fertilize your plant some.  Use a good quality orchid fertilizer at 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water.  Water it with this fertilizer once a week for the next month, then once every two weeks after that.  As long as the plant isn't too far gone, this should perk it up.  Let me know how it does.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply I will try that and I forgot to ask you one question the pitcher that it has still hasn't inflated but is turning black is that normal? Thank you you so much for your advice

Hi Ishan,

That can happen for various reasons.  At this point it won't recover, so watch for new growth and new pitchers once you change position and start fertilizing.
