Hi I have two nepanthes, ventricosa x sibuyanensis and clipeata clipeata x eymae and was wondering if it is safe to put them outdoors until temps get too cool. I live in zone 8, in fact as a crow flys about 50 miles from the nursery in Camas Washington. They are not old. One I got a just over a month ago and the other just a few days ago. I do know they would probably grow faster if they were outside as most houseplants do so that's what I would prefer. Our forecast has no temps below 47 degrees.

While you can grow Nepenthes outdoors, if you're new to these varieties of Nepenthes, you're better off growing indoors for the first year, especially if it's a small plant.  Large plants can deal with the slightly harsher conditions of outdoor growing, but small plants tend to have a more difficult time.  It's always best to gain experience in growing these plants in one location for a while.  As you develop more experience and understand how these plants react to changes in lighting, temperature and humidity, you will have better success in growing them outdoors.  Otherwise, just find a nice sunny windowsill and keep them indoors for the summer.

If you choose to grow your plants outdoors, you will need to wait until you feel confident that the nighttime temperature drops no lower than 50°F.  When this occurs is mostly a judgement call on your part and how confident you feel putting them outdoors.  You should also expect somewhat fewer pitchers and smaller leaves.
