Carnivorous Plants/drosera capensis

Question
Two months ago I bought a large drosera capensis at a garden show. Its growing in a pot, no dome. The entire surface of the pot is covered with a thick carpet of moss. It had been growing fine, grew a long flower stalk which I cut off, but now the ends of several of the longest leaves are turning black and there isn't much new growth coming up. Its in a south window, with all my other indoor CP's. Should I transplant it?

Answer
Hi Craig,

You mentioned it was a large plant.  It's common for larger Cape sundews to start having the older leaves get brown tips and the top to get tall and lanky.  Try repotting in fresh media, and be sure to use a deep pot and plant the plant deeper.  Cut off any bad looking leaves on the lower part of the plant.

You didn't mention much else about your growing conditions, so be sure your plant is getting at least 3 hours of direct sun, and you're watering with low-mineral water.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
