Question
Hello, my question is why is my Nepenthes Truncata not growing pitchers ive had it for 4 years now and its only developed 2 pitchers i have it with 2 other Nepenthes in the same hanging pot and they do great they are Nepenthes lady pauline and Nepenthes senguinia. The soil is pure spagnum their hanging basket is made out of wood with many gaps in it i think its good for airing it and i give them tap water like i do to all my carnivorus plants and they seem fine. i am located in northern Illinois i have them facing the west. Thanks

Answer
Hi Giordan,

Here's a few things to try.  First, position the hanging basket so that the truncata is facing towards the sun.  Often lack of light is why Nepenthes don't pitcher.  From your photo I see the growth is very good, just no pitchers, and inadequate light is often the reason this can happen.  The plant has enough light for vegetative growth, but pitchers require more energy.  Also, if you're not doing it already, try fertilizing.  Use a good quality orchid fertilizer mixed at 1/4 tsp. per gallon of water, and water the plant with this once every two weeks.  Let me know how this works.

Good Growing!
