Question
I am loving the plants i own... which is a lot... and I have one, a nepenthes ventricosa x sibuyanensis that will not send out pitchers. I have it in what seems like the correct conditions and i've had it for two months. it is in full sun in an east window, always has water in its tray, and still in the same pot and mix that i got it from you guys in... the temp is 65-75 in the day, and 60-65 at night... what am I doing wrong? the overall health is really good though. the tendrils seem to be drying up or something. my Clipeata is doing just fine though in the same conditions.
Hi Nathan,
By virtue of the fact that you live in Oregon, we haven't had much full sun, especially in the morning which is what an east window will get. Try moving the plant to a west window, or just give it more time. Once we finally get some stretches of sunny weather it could turn around. Very few of my Nepenthes in my house have pitchers right now, and other years they have. A good example is my little N. x miranda; it's a sun pig. It's in a west window, but without any stretches of sunny weather, no pitchers. Different species of Nepenthes will pitcher with different amounts of light. N. clipeata may be a little more shade tolerant. Also, our N. ventricosa x sibuyanensis in the greenhouse are just starting to pitcher, and it coincides with the warmer weather. Temperatures could be playing a factor. Ventricosa seems to do better when temperatures are in the 80's.
