Question
I have a 7 year old nepenthes alata and 3 baby ventrata's. This friday i'm going on a 4 week vacation and I needed to find someone to care for my plant. So I'll have to drive my nep to my friends house. I was wondering if the tendrils and pitchers will survive and be fine through the car ride or will they die and brown due to the changing environment and my friends house? I'm just worried that the pitchers and tendrils will brown up since my plant is producing lots of pitchers right now.
Hi Victor,
As long as your friend is good about watering, and has a good sunny window to keep the plants in they should be fine. It's a bit of a risk that the change could affect pitchering but the alternative of having them at your place with no water while you're on vacation is worse.
They'll survive the car ride just fine. I transport larger Nepenthes by using a large box and setting the plant in and securing the plant with wadded up newspaper. You have to position the pitchers carefully to avoid damage. You can often prop them upright on top of the newspaper or in-between.
