QUESTION: Allexperts,

I repotted this Nepenthes Venticosa about  2 weeks ago.  Now the leaves are beginning to die off.  I have attached a photo on this email. The soil that I used was the standard Nepenthes mix that I got from you guys.  I use distilled water.  I have the plant growing under CFL lights.  I usually have this plant in a window, but the window not getting enough light in the summer.  Let me know if you need a more information.  Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin Callery

ANSWER: Hi Weylin,

Your growing conditions sound good.  What did the roots look like when you repotted?

For right now, try giving it a little fertilizer.  Do an orchid fertilizer mixed at 1/4 strength once a week just pouring a little over the plant and a little in the soil.  Then just give it some time.

Good Growing!

QUESTION: Allexperts,

The Roots appeared black when I went to repotted the plant.  Is the plant on its way out.  If so what do you think caused the plant to go out?  Is there anything else I could do to save the plant?  Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Weylin Callery

Answer
Hi Weylin,

Nepenthes roots are black.  At this point you're just going to need to give it time.  It always takes them awhile to recover after transplanting.  Along with the fertilization a dose of Superthrive could help it.

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
