Question
Hello Jacob or Jeff,

Last season I grew some Drosera Intermedia from seed I bought from the ICPS. Unfortunately they didn't survive dormancy this Spring. Knowing CPs I didn't throw them away and just noticed some new seedlings sprouting up. With dormancy just around the corner in New England, do you think I could skip dormancy and grow them in a window or should I just chance it and let them go dormant. I know Sarracenia and Dionaea can skip a dormancy when young but I haven't read anything about Drosera.

Thank You for taking the time to answer my Question and for all that you guys do for the CP community.

Answer
Hi Neil,

You might be able to skip the dormancy.  If you keep them in a windowsill they will probably go dormant no matter what you do from photoperiod, or just shutdown on their own.  When I've done leaf cuttings I find they will go into hibernacula even if you have them under artificial light.  So, maybe try some indoors and leave some out.

The bigger question I have here is why you're loosing them over the winter.  You should have D. intermedia native to Massachusetts.  Did the seeds have any locational data on the envelope from ICPS?  It's possible you have a clone from a warmer climate considering there are forms from Canada through tropical Cuba.

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
