Question
Black dots forming on the phyllodia
Black dots forming on
Hi! Recently I noticed these dots forming on my sarracenia leucophylla's phyllodia leaves and a few of the pitchers. I'm sure what this is, whether it's a type of fungus or a pest. My plant grows outside on my west facing deck where it can get up to 6 hours of direct sun. I also gets pretty hot which explains the non-carnivorous leaves. I have a attached a photo of the black dots. It's not the clearest photo ever but you can still see the dots.
Please help me?

Answer
Hi Victor,

It's not unusual for Sarracenia to get these spots later in the summer.  They don't seem to cause the plant any problems.  It's probably some minor damage being caused by a small insect.  I've seen in in many of ours, and on wild plants like Darlingtonia.  If it seems to be getting rampant you can spray the plant with Bayer 3 in 1, but I don't think that will be needed.

Good Growing!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
