Question
I have a few 5" diameter plastic plant pots that are known as half size (approx 5" high).
My question is I have planted some Dionaea muscipula in these and they are doing well.
I have a few pitcher plants, Sarracenia excellens that I need to repot early next year.
My question is:- Are the half size pots too shallow for the Sarracenia's and if yes what size pots would you recommend?
Hi Lorcan,
Those pots will work, but taller pots are better. The Sarracenia won't be too fussy about it, but the Flytraps tend to have more problems, especially in winter. Shorter pots keep the plants wetter, but taller pots tend to keep the upper soil in the pot just moist if your watering on the tray system. I would say that if you currently have them in the shorter pots, no need to move them now. Next time you transplant, consider using a taller pot.
