Carnivorous Plants/Nepenthes

Question
Hello, Since i grow a few of my nepenthes in my west window would it be ok to build a little fixture with some 40 watt compact bulbs over it. They get about three or more hours of only direct sun. And a little more during the summer. I know this would be fine for the Winter but when summer roles around would it be to much. My window seal consits of a few easy hybrids such as nepenthes x hookeriana And singlana x ventricosa x sibuanynsis. And also a couple species wich are Glabrata and sanguienea.

Answer
Hi Robert,

Most likely not.  Glass blocks about 80% of UV light, so when they are indoors it doesn't tend to be too much sun.  Chances are, however, you won't need the extra lighting during the summer, just the winter.  If you do start to see a little burn on leaves during the height of the summer heat, just move the plants back some from the window.  I always prefer to err on the side of too much light versus too little, since too little light = no pitchers. :)

Good Growing!

PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR QUESTION:
We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
