Question
I had a question pertaining to pests of Sarracenia. Do you guys ever have any trouble with Sarracenia root-borer, exyra moths, or black vine weevils attacking your Sarracenia or Darlingtonia?
If so, how do you control them?

Hi Derick,
We seem to have a moth in the Pacific Northwest similar to Exyra, or they are introduced. They pop up sometimes in pitchers, but it is very uncommon here. If I find one I just cut the pitcher off and kill the caterpillar. We probably have wasps that eat them too. We don't have black vine weevil here, or Sarracenia Root-Borer here thankfully. Any of these insects could be controlled with systemic insecticides. Here's a good link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbRCdJ8ZNF0 The root-borer you might be able to ward off by mixing diatamaceous earth with the peat around rhizomes.
