D. dichotoma - Giant Staghorn Sundew
D. dichotoma - Giant S
Allexperts,

I have a question about D. dichotoma - Giant Staghorn Sundew: Whether or not the plant would comeback from the roots or not?  I treated the plant with Daconil ( fungicide that comes in the red spray bottle.)  for about 3 treatments.  There are about 3 or 4 plants growing in a 4 inch pot.  I have attached a photo.  Would a D. dichotoma - Giant Staghorn Sundew come back from the roots after I have gone rid of the pathogen?  What would be some ways to get the plant to come back from the roots quick.  I was thinking giving the plant a dome covering say how you would propagate root cuttings. Would this be effective?  I have no idea what happened to this plant!   This pathogen started out as white dots on the crown of the plant. Thank you for your time and patience.

Sincerely,

Weylin

Answer
Hi Weylin,

After your treatment I would just leave it alone.  It looks like you do have some new development on your plant.  Trying to do root cuttings, adding a dome, etc... with just add to the disturbance.  It will send up side shoots if a main crown dies.  Also, since we are starting to get into longer days you may see an increase in the growth of this species.  They do have a short dormancy in the winter.

Good Growing!

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
