Carnivorous Plants/Drosera intermedia

My carnivorous plants
My carnivorous plants

I bought my drosera from about two weeks ago and it seams that its not liking something that I'm doing the leads are turning black and I'm not sure if it is something natural to happen at this time of the year I live in zone 8 I provide enough water and sun I don't know what's wrong.

Hi Albert,

Many of the North American sundews start going dormant in the late summer.  Lots of our D. intermedia, D. rotundifolia, and some D. filiformis are starting to form their winter resting buds (hibernacula).  This is normal behavior.  You'll find these tend to come out of dormancy fairly early in the spring.  Since you're warmer in Texas, you should see these begin to resume growth in late February.

Good Growing!

No terrariums. No myths. No nonsense.
Just the straight facts from guys who grow and propagate
thousands of carnivorous plants each year.

Our focus is to help help growers diagnose a specific plant problem and offer solutions. For example:
  • Why is my sundew not producing dew?
  • Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?
  • Why are the traps turning black?
  • What's a good substitute for perlite?
  • Why didn't my seeds germinate?
  • How do you deal with pests?
  • Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?
We no longer answer general, how-to questions that are already posted on our website or demonstrated in our DVDs. For general plant care, please read our care guides:
