Question
I live near Detroit, MI. Why do you not recommend using dried sphagnum moss for germinating seeds? What do you recommend? I am germinating Sarracenia seeds indoors under 40 watt florecent lights left on 24/7 at a temperature of about 82 degrees.
Hi Fred,
We've just had more problems with dried sphagnum, particularly Chilean. It gets algae readily, and seems to be full of grass seed. Peat moss is what we use. It's much less expensive, and works very well.
Your technique sounds fine. Did you stratify your seeds?
