Experience
I have done research on the relationship between feline diet and feline diabetes due to my personal experience in dealing with one of my own cats. I am a pet lover and always have numerous cats and dogs. I believe in feeding a high quality and by-product free diet. Diet alone cured my diabetic cat as well as either cured or significantly helped many others.

Question
hi! my names randi. and i had a question.
i have this 2-3 year old cat that i have had since it was a kitten, but it had run away for about a year. and reacently it just showed back up at my house. there is something wrong with its paws and idk what it is. there bald in some spots and VERY puffy and swollen. my mom thinks that it just got burned at the stone quarry. but idk. its not pussy or an open cut or anything. just very puffy paws. it kinda feels like theres liquid or puss or something in his paws b.c when you feel them its all squishy. i dont have money to take him to the vet, but if its something hes going to die frm. i wanna do sumn. he just limps around holding up his paw. (its just his two front paws hurt btw.). and he just lays down when hes not limping. i just dont no what it could be. or how to help him get better. or if hell just heal on his own.would you happen to no anything about this? please get back to me as soon as possible. im very worried! thank you very much!

Answer
Hi Randi,

It definitely sounds like your cat has a pretty bad injury...either from a burn, a snake bite, cat fight, etc.  I would highly suggest getting him to a vet as he more than likely needs a course of antibiotics.  If this is entirely not possible due to financial reasons...try examining his paw closely and getting someone to hold him by the scruff of his neck, just above and in front of his shoulder blades.  Support his back end and watch out for the claws or carefully trim them prior to examining him.  See if the bottom of the paw looks the same as the other paws...if he is a light colored cat and has pink paws, the color will be noticeably different from the other paws if it is a burn.  If so, a vet needs to see him for antibiotics and medication...as damage and scarring can be quite severe in burns.  If it doesn't appear to be a burn...when you look at the paw carefully push on the pads of his foot to make sure that his claws will normally retract (come out so that you can see them).  You can also, gently, attempt to pull out small pieces of hair on his paw.  In animals, if there is a major abcess (infection) going on that is just under the skin, the hair will be easy to pull out, thus opening the abcess.  If it is infected, it will need to be drained immediately, as to help with the healing process and decreased tissue damage.  If you can find a hole in the paw, try to remove the hair around it and open the hole, then gently press to try to get as much of the pus and infection out as possible.  This will greatly help with the pain and healing time.  Also, make sure you keep fresh water out for him and freshen it several times a day.  Also make sure that he is eating well.
Hope this helps!
