Cat Food/Overweight Cat Food Portion Size?

Question
I have an 11 year old female Russian Blue and she's an indoor only cat.  She weights about 18 lbs and has since I adopted her 6 years ago.  I've had lots of problems with her having UTIs and missing the litter box and nothing seemed to help, but I recently switched her from an all dry diet to an all wet food diet and all those problems have seemed to have disappeared.  Plus, she loves the wet food.

I'm currently feeding her Wellness brand food but I'm not sure how much I should be giving her.  I had been giving her one 5.5 oz can a day (broken into two servings) but she was constantly bugging me for more so I went looking for feeding guidelines and found on the Wellness website they say I should be feeding her one 5.5 oz can per day per 6-8 lbs of body weight.  For her that would be 14-18 oz per day! That seems a bit excessive.

How much should I be feeding her that will be enough to nourish & satiate, but also facilitate weight loss?  For now, home cooking is not an option some guidelines in terms of the Wellness diet would be good.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Matt,  Wellness is very condensed and a quality food.  I would give her the one can per day but also offer some dry food -
Just place a few tablespoons of water ontop of the dry.
The Wellness makes nice dry food, too.

MY favorites are Life's Abundance cat food:
I bet your Russian Blue will love it:
SEE here - You can give 1 can per day and also some of the dry.
YOU may want to rotate between the two brands of cat food.

Instinctive Choice food will be delivered to your door via UPS
(Not sold in stores -  Cost a little less than Wellness - about in the same price range)

Instinctive Choice Premium Canned Food is formulated to provide your cat with a meal that is similar in nutrition and moisture to how a feline would feed in the wild. Instinct is king with cats and they will purr over this protein rich food, which contains organic chicken, turkey, chicken liver and shrimp. Why should you choose Instinctive Choice for your cat? It’s not only what’s in Instinctive Choice that makes it the ultimate canned cat food, it’s what is not in it.

Good luck !
Adding a little dry food may help to stop the hunger begging
