Cat Training and Behavior (Domestic and Feral)/cats fighting

Question
i have had 2 cats for several years.  they usually get along.  a couple of days ago they started fighting.  one will not go to the litter box and so she peed on my bed.  they are staying in the same room with one on the bed, and the other under the bed.  if i separate them to separate rooms will they ever get over it?  or should i keep them together so they eventually get used to each other again.  i'm worried about the one urinating on my bed again since she's apparantly scared to get down.

Answer
Have you taken the cats to the vets'? Sometimes, sudden changes in behavior between cats that usually get along, for several years in the case of yours, could be medical in origin.

In the interim you may need to get a second litterbox in the odd case that one has become somehow territorial (could happen), and perhaps separating them for a while and then slowly reacquainting them might help.

But personally, I'd first try to rule out anything medical.

Good luck
