Question
why do catholics have memorized prayers?
what is the meaning of the word "AMEN"?
what is its significance?

Answer
Hi Marie.

I grew up a protestant recall that many of them recited the Lord's Prayer and even the Apostles Creed, so Catholics are not the only Christians who use specific prayers.  Note, though, that we also pray conversationally and without memorized prayers too.

Here is an article that I think you will find informative:

As for Amen, it generally means "It is so", or "So be it"...or "Yes, I believe".

For a more scholarly discussion of it's history and use, see here: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01407b.htm

Peace and Blessings to you, Marie.

Rick.

I can help clarify fact vs. fiction regarding the teachings of the Catholic Faith. I believe that Catholicism is the best representation of the Historic Christian Faith and that this can be shown with Scripture, reason and history.

I am an ecumenical apologist. I'm not interested in telling non-Catholics why they are wrong, but am happy to explain and confirm what we believe and why we; from Scripture, reason and history.

There are some issues where I will have to politely agree to disagree with my non-Catholic brother in Christ, however there is so much that we share in common, I'd prefer to clarify those first. :)
