Catholics/Communion Twice a Day
Expert: Fr. Michael - 1/21/2008
QuestionQUESTION: What's your opinion on receiving Communion twice a day?
My gut feel is that it's ok if, say, you already went to morning Mass and then later in the day you attend a funeral or wedding, but on an ordinary day receiving Communion at the 7am Mass and then again at the 8am Mass seems like, I don't know, one is treating the Eucharist too casually.
Thanks,
John
ANSWER: Your "gut feel" is absolutely wrong. Receiving more than once a day is prohibited and is, in fact, sacrilege.

QUESTION: Well actually I was referring to my gut feel about Canon law #917 which states:
"One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a eucharistic celebration in which that person participates, without prejudice to the provision of can. 921 §2." (Canon Law # 917)
My gut feel is that they made this law because of those extraordinary situations like attending marriages and such, but that one should not receive twice a day regularly. Am I right about that?
Thanks,
John
AnswerAs the All Experts profile indicates, I answer questions from the *traditional Catholic perspective.* What you are quoting is not from a traditional Catholic canon, but from a totally revamped New Order version of the Codex Iuris Canonicis, which incorporates numerous provisions tainted by a Modernist mentality. Traditionally, the Canons provide that Communion be received only once a day.
Even at that, one has to wonder whether these people that are receiving Communion all the time are properly prepared by a traditional fast from midnight, with Sacramental Confession, sorrow for sins, and a true purpose of amendment. It seems that people just line up now, prepared or not. One should be more concerned, as St. Paul makes to clear in First Corinthians, with the *worthiness* of a Communion, not an attempt to break some record of frequency!
