Question
How does the Catholic church explain dinosaurs?

Answer
It doesn't have to.  This not a matter of religion, but of science.  Unlike many Protestant sects today, the Catholic Church has not adhered to a so-called "literal" interpretation of Sacred Scripture.  In fact, the Great Doctor of the Church, St. Augustine, called nature "God's second book of Scripture."  That is one of the reasons why Catholics have been leaders in science since the beginning of the Church.
