Question
hello, my husband and i are practicing catholics and were married almost 9 years ago in a catholic church and we go to mass every sunday and holy day, our children attend religious ed and we pay tithing. we just had our fifth child in april of this year and i just found out i am pregnat again. for all our children we have tried the nfp method and it has never worked. we have gone through the class many times and have the home study book also. i have read it so much i have it memorized.  we have very little money and didnt want to be pregnant again. we went by everything in the book and did it to a "T"  and it still didnt work. we can't afford anymore kids and my husband and i are wondering that in our situation  is it okay to get my tubes tied after this our 6th baby. its not that we dont want to follow the church and disobey God, we just physically and mentally and finacially cannot take care of anymore. we are totally against abortion so that is not even a question we just want to know if it is okay to say we are done and do somthing about it.  please help we need an answer badly   sincerlly in all God's love

Answer
Dear Angela:

Being sterilized is not acceptable. It is a sinful action. I have never heard of NFP failing so consistently. It has never failed my wife and I. Have you spoken to your priest? If not that might be your next step. Have faith that God will provide for you and your family. It is a difficult situation that you have described, but I cannot give you the answer that you want because it would be the wrong answer.
