Question
aren't all the bibles the same? is there a catholic one and if so, why is it different?

Answer
Dear David:

The Catholic Bible has 7 Old Testament books that are missing from the Protestant Bible. The Catholic Bible is different because the Catholic Church uses the Old Testament used by Jesus and the Apostles.  The early Church used the longer Old Testament also. Protestants use the shorter Old Testament that the Jews decided on in 90 A.D. The main reason for choosing the shorter version was that Martin Luther wanted to avoid the doctrine of Purgatory which is clearly taught in the Book of Maccabees now absent from Protestant Bibles. The issues were more complicated, but this is a brief discussion of the issue. Go to the Catholic page of Allexperts for more info.
