Catholics/St. Patrick

Question
Dear Sir:

I was given a pamphlet at a St. Patrick's Day parade. The pamphlet was from a Protestant church. They wanted to tell the "truth" about St. Patrick. Can you confirm or dispute these "facts"?

1. St. Patrick was not Catholic. He was a member of the Celtic Church which opposed the teachings of the pope.

2. The pope during St. Patrick's time in Ireland probably never heard of Patrick.

3. St. Patrick was never a bishop or other church clergyman. He was a simple preacher.

Thanks for any light you can shed on the life of St. Patrick.

Stan

Answer
Peace

dear Stan,
St Patrick is indeed a Catholic, at least according to his auto-
biography. He was a bishop. According to the same autobiography, his maternal grandfather was a priest and his paternal grandfather might have been a deacon after his paternal grandmother died.
His father is believed to have been a retired Roman senator, at the time St. Patrick was kidnapped at the age of 16 or 17.

Below is great article about the great Catholic, St. Patrick:
