AboutFr. Jerome Expertise A traditional Catholic priest who provides forthright answers to questions FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF TRADITIONAL CATHOLICISM (not the New Order) on topics pertaining to traditional Roman Catholicism, including theology, the Bible, Church history, the Latin language, liturgy (especially the Traditional Latin Mass), and music (especially Gregorian chant), and current events in the Catholic Church.
Question I was at a mass recently and the priest was saying that according to a reading from Deuteronomy( I forget the actual verse), we are all priests and are able to offer sacrifice. Any thoughts on this?
Answer Not even the Jews of the Old Testament believed that, as they had a separate priesthood to offer sacrifice. Remember Moses' brother, Aaron? He was a priest and offered sacrifice, not even Moses.
We strongly suspect that the person you described is not in fact a priest in the traditional sense, but a presbyter of the New Order sect, which does not hold to traditional Catholic doctrine (as this case would indicate). If you are relating his point accurately and completely, he appears to have been teaching a defined heresy. You need to find a traditional Catholic church where you can be edified by traditional Catholic doctrine uncorrupted by the New Order. If you do not know such a location, there is a list at www.traditio.com/nat.htm.
