Question
Dear Ian,

I have a few questions to ask you? Can you be a woman pastor and be catholic? I feel some how called to be a lay Catholic woman pastor. I am very good at preaching the bible. Also is the Douya Rheims bible a better choice to study from if you are catholic? I heard that it was.

I also want to know I want to get married and have 3-4 beautiful children of my own one day. I would like to have two girls and two boys. My health is healed and my thyroidism is all most cured. I pray fervently. I want to date though and be with a catholic husband who is very christian. I even want someone who doesnt control me or the kids, is a family oriented guy. I want someone mellow and meek. Someone who is a bible reader and true believer in Catholic faith. Where can I find such a man? I am 22 and been single for four years I am tired of being single and I want to be with someone special the nationalities I hope to date is Greek Catholic, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. My church is Old Latin Italian church it is 107 years old. I do want to get married some day. I even want to have my own house I just want to know why am I still single what am I doing wrong? I am spanish girl of Puerto Rican descend and I would like to know what is wrong? I even want to date some one who has moral values and prays the rosary with me, also who hates satanic music! I just want a wholesome boyfriend is that hard to ask?

Answer
Dear Jacqueline,

The Catholic Church teaches that Holy Orders can only be bestowed on men based on the example set by Christ. You can certainly work in a parish and it might be good for you to get a theology degree so that you can teach religious education or lead Bible studies in your parish.

Concerning your future family plans, I would recommend that you set as your goal finding a husband who will help you and your children get to heaven. That is really the first thing you should look for. I also wouldn't recommend wishing for a certain number of children or a certain division of children. God has a funny way of giving you what you need as opposed to what you want. I would pray that you have good children who will get to spend eternity in heaven with you.

If you are comfortable using an online dating service, I would recommend either avemariasingles.com or catholicmatch.com. They are good, Catholic dating services that really have marriage as the goal.

God bless,
Ian
