Question
hi there

is it possible for a catholic to become a protestant christian?? i really like this guy and because of hes beliefs he cannot accept me being a catholic only because of the way he was brought up and because our feelings are very strong for each other its very dificult to montain a relationship because of this.I do not go to mass apart from christmas so could you please give me some advice cause its tearing our world apart cause we really want to be with each other and i am willing and interested in going to go the protestant church or any christian meetings to find out more information on how we can both be with eachother

many thanks

Answer
What church you do or do not go to is entirely between you and God! Some people feel more comfortable in a Protestant setting, others in a Catholic. And some just try to be Christians without belonging to any particular denomination.

I think it in part depends on your roots, your upbringing and, as in your case, you present situation.

The good thing is, if you were to, say, leave the RCC, you could always go back later in life if you wanted to.

So just follow your heart. And ask God to guide you.

I hope this helps.

Expertise

I'm a progressive Catholic--not a liberal, conservative nor a single-minded critic of Catholicism. I simply believe that adults in the 21C should use the mind God gave them and not just repeat ancient and medieval modes of thinking.

I can probably help with questions that intelligently and respectfully question those aspects of Catholicism that are not infallible. But if you're looking for someone to vigorously defend or perhaps refute Catholicism as a whole, that's not me. So please ask another expert.

Experience

I run an educational website earthpages.org and know what the web has to offer. I might suggest hyperlinks and/or book titles as I have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and a considerable personal library.
