Catholics/return of Jesus

Question
When Jesus returns is that the final judgement? What happens? does the world end then or does the earth continue? What is meant by the final resurrection, is that when the body is united with the soul? If this is the end does that mean that Purgatory will no longer exist? Thank you in advance for your answer. Bill Spratt

Answer
With the return of Jesus [parousia] come the general judgment and resurrection; purgatory will end.
The book of Revelation speaks of a new heaven and a new earth -- 21:4-5; see also Rom 8:19ff -- so there will be a great transformation.
