Catholics/Obama being pro-abortion...

Question
Hi Sal

In one of your earlier responses you state: "Dear Jacqueline:

I don't believe that Obama is the anti-christ. He is a pro-abortionist. Therefore, he will aid in the murder of millions of babies each year that he is in power. No Catholic should have voted for him, but I'm afraid that many did. In fact no Christian should vote for an abortion-promoting candidate."Thou shall not murder."

First, there is a difference between being pro-choice and being pro-abortion.  Obama is pro-choice.  What this means is that, although he is not in favor getting an abortion for himself, is will not impose his own religious beliefs upon others.  When life begins, whether there is a God, an afterlife, justice for sinning during one's life are all a matter of religious belief.  We live in a democracy that allows for freedom of religious belief and a separation of church and state.

Not having the state punish people for having abortions is not being pro-abortion.  Not having laws punishing citizens for committing any and all sins mentioned in the Bible does not constitute being in favor of those sins.

The Catholic Church needs to educate the population of the proper way to lead one's life.  The Church needs to lead by example.  The Church does not need the help of the United States government or any other government to do its job for it.

If you voted for John McCain for President they you are also guilty of being pro-abortion.  McCain stated in 2001 that he is anti-abortion except for the possible cases of rape, incest, and the safety of the mother's health.  The Catholic Church makes no exceptions for any of these cases therefore, a vote for McCain was also a pro-abortion vote.

Thank you.

Answer
Dear Mickey:

Any politician who gives the lame excuse that they are personally opposed to murdering babies, but will not force that belief on others is a weak, hypocrite at best.

The Catholic Church is the only Church that is teaching the Godly way to live. Thus its stands against murdering babies, artificial birth control, gay marriages, etc.

The Catholic Church does make an exception concerning abortion if the life of the mother is in danger. The mother does not have to die in giving birth. She can save her life because she was not desiring to end the baby's life that was the undesired result of saving her own life. It does not make an exception for cases of rape and incest because the desired result is to kill the baby. In that case there is no danger to the mother's life. Those cases are ugly situations, but the baby should not be made to pay for someone else's crime.

Sal
