Question Hello,
I am a divorced Catholic. I married a divorced Protestant. I understand that I need to obtain an annulment in order to validate this marriage. My husband's first wife was divorced, also a Protestant. No annulment was obtained before my husband married her. My question is, does my husband also need to obtain an annulment from his first wife,or was their marriage not considered valid because she did not first obtain an annulment? Thanks.
Answer Peace.
Dear Lynn,
You need to seek a decree of Annulment, to validate or receive the Sacrament of Holy Matriony. The Church would need to give one for you and one for your husband. Your parish priest can help you to start the process.
Side note: If you can show that you and your "husband" are living as brother and sister, you just need to go to confession of any sin, especially related to your irregular or questionable relationship, in order for you to receive our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
