Question My daughter is 14 and is very interested in begining her relationship with God.She was never baptized and wants to be.I myself was babtized at 2 months old,but was never an active member of the Church. Now that my daughter wants to begin going to Church I want to support her and start going too.My Mother informed me that there are certain criteria we have to meet to be allowed to have the baptized in the Catholic Church. I am hoping tou can help inform me on what the requirements are and basically how and where to begin. She and I very much want her to be baptized where I was.(St.Clements in St.bernard ,Ohio or ).My Mother told me there was alot of "red tape" involved and they were not going to permit it at first. Any info you can give me will be much appreciated and welcome.Thank You and I will be waiting for your advise and info.
Answer You are probably thinking about the process of the New Order (which is frequently called "Catholic," but is not) rather than traditional Catholicism. The New Order puts people through a three-year indoctrination program called RCIA, which should be scrupulously avoided.
Traditionally, for a person of that age, 3-6 months private study of the doctrine and practice of the faith conducted usually by the local traditional priest, would be all that is involved. For a list of such priests, see the Official Traditional Directory of Traditional Latin Masses at www.traditio.com/nat.htm.
