Catholics/Are we really in gods image?

Question
People around the world differ due to the environment they were placed in be it asian, black, tall, small. if we were made in gods image would these minor traits in evolution cancel out the true godly form in which we were created? and if so would that mean we have surpassed him or just adapted? Also if we were made in his image would change be necessary? If so would that mean god is imperfect?

Answer
My original answer:
The reference to mankind in the image and likeness of God in Genesis 1:26 refers primarily to the nearby reference to the God's dominion -- humans sharing in the dominion of God over creation.  The reference does not refer to accidental characteristics of humanity.
There is no implication to the imperfection of God, rather the reference is to the exalted status of humanity among all creation.
Hope these thoughts help.  If you desire more, please feel free to write again.
Best wishesn as always, Chris.

My additional comment:
Thanks for the evaluation.  You commented, "thank you for your response however i'm still a little confused on the topic. so it doesn't acually pretain to us being the image of god only that we r his chosen people?"
The direct meaning of the text, according to many scholars, is as I answered above.
However, one can also think theologically that mankind shares in some way in God's spiritual characteristics.  Such thoughts of mankind's being gifted with intellect and will does show God's love for mankind.  Such thoughts are developed elsewhere in the bible, especially in the John's Gospel and Letters.
Again, I hope these thoughts are of help.
