Catholics/Crusades

Question
Hi Father Micheal;

  I've been reading about the crusades, and it seems that most people today regard the crusaders as
evil, brutal, cold blooded killers. How does the Catholic church see the crusaders? Are they regarded as great heros of the faith or not ?

                               Thanks
                               Bob

Answer
There is an excellent summary of this issue on the TRADITIO Traditional Roman Catholic Network at www.traditio.com.  Go to the Library of Files (FAQs and Traditional Apologetics) and select FAQ10:  How Do You Explain These Traditional Catholic Beliefs?  There is a section there on the traditiional Catholic view of the Crusades.
