Catholics/Friday Abstinence from Fleshmeat

Question
Is it okay to eat chicken on Fridays during Lent.

Answer
It depends upon the local custom in the definition of fleshmeat.  In the United States, for example, chicken is considered fleshmeat.  By the way, it is a common misconception that the abstinence from fleshmeat pertains only to Lent.  To the contrary, the abstinence pertains to every Friday of the year, unless a Holyday Feast falls on a Friday, and goes back to Apostolic times.
