Question
we got married 19 years ago in a lutheran church in Germany (and at the town hall first, necessary in Germany). Next month, my husband will convert to the catholic church. I am not interested in joining the catholic church. How will the catholic church view our marriage? Is it binding? We have a 13 year old son. Can my husband divorce me because I am not catholic?

Answer
I changed the subject of the message after I posted the first answer.

Deacon Tom

Heike,

Do not worry. The Church will recognize your marriage as completely valid and binding. Your husband most assuredly CANNOT divorce you because you're not Catholic . . . or for any other reason, for that matter.
