Question
QUESTION: A question that has been proposed to me by an agnostic is: how can one be happy in heaven if his friends and family are in hell?  Please respond. Thank you.

ANSWER: Peace

I would say we would see things in the light of God's mercy and justice. He never fails in either.

QUESTION: Thank you, George. Indeed, I think you are right, but this answer will not suffice.  I did try to explain seeing it in light of God's mercy and justice, but I need to know what that means.  Would you please elucidate.  Imagine you were agnostic or atheist.  What would satisfy your skepticism? Thanks.

Answer
Peace

It would be hard for me to imagine being such, for I have a deep sense of peace and joy knowing the truth and embracing it.

God is all-mercy. God is all-justice. I agree with the last two statements, 100% without a bit of doubt. Mercy for God would be seeing things we need and our desire for them, and then "act" accordingly. God's action would be justice, that is applying Mercy according to a person's relationship with Him.  If the person wants "peace of soul", God will grant, so long as the person lives in right relationship with Him.

Sorry, I couldn't be more of help.
