Expert: Fr. Michael - 7/26/2010
QuestionHello Father,i am catholic to be married to an englishman in an anglican church,i have met the Rev who will marry us he is a very sweet gentleman however my fiance is not a church goer and i know nothing about the anglican church wedding ceremony.
i was told that the ceremony will begin with a reading from the bible and then the marriage vows and a few prayers and then i have requested holy communian. Can you please tell me when is the unity candle supposed to be lit? are my inlaws involved as well? how does that process work?
Would you be able to suggest some very nice readings from the bible for our ceremony?I dont want to dissapoint my fly who are very traditional portuguese catholics and who would have liked me to be married in the roman catholic church, with a high mass and so on, so i would like to incorparate something catholic in the cermony can you suggest something? Please help.. and thank you so very much
AnswerFirst of all, no Catholic can be married to an Anglican heretic before an Anglican minister. To do so automatically excommunicates you from the Catholic Church, as you will have publicly denied the Faith. To receive the invalid Anglican "communion" is also an act of sacrilege. You say that you are a Catholic, but obviously you have given up any commitment to that Faith. You are "marrying" in an heretical sect and taking its "communion." Essentially, you are proclaiming yourself an Anglican heretic.
Apparently, you are acting in grave ignorance of what your Faith is and what the Sacrament of Matrimony is. You need to slow down and consider what you are doing. You need to have an intensive conversation with a traditional Catholic priest. I see in the Official Traditional Catholic Directory that there is a contact for that information in England at +44 (1628) 636-806, fax 788-802, steve@pearlglobe.co.uk. Get some assistance with this before you make a very serious mistake that could affect your temporal and eternal life.
