Question
How can I KNOW that the Catholic church is the true religion? thanks, laura

Answer
The Catholic Church has long proclaimed its claim to be the repository of the true and complete teaching of Jesus, the Son of God, because the Church possesses four essential qualities -- one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.  These qualities come from God, Who teaches the truth and does not contradict Himself or want that His teachings should be changed in the completeness and truthfulness of its content.
Oneness comes from its source, the Holy Trinity.
Holiness comes from God's holiness dispersed through His special graces, conferred sepecially through the Sacraments, beginning with Baptism, strengthened by the Eucharist and forgiveness of Sin [Penance]. The effects of grace can be observed in the holiness of life of many.
Catholic means universal because of the presence of Christ to extend His work of all humanity.
Apostolic means founded on the Apostles and their teachings handed down in succession to the leaders of the Church [pope and bishops].

Books have been written to deal with your question, Laura.  I have skimmed the tips of the icebergs.  For further explanation, please consult The Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 811-870.  Available on line at:

If you would like more from me, please feel free to write again.
Best wishes.
