Catholics/Saturday "Mass"

Question
Is it a sin for a Catholic to attend Saturday late afternoon mass so that he can play golf on Sunday morning?

Answer
The "Saturday Mass" to which you are referring is not a Catholic Mass, but one of those unCatholic New Order services.  They are properly -- and derisively -- termed the Golf "Mass" for the very reason that you mention.  Catholic Masses are celebrated from dawn to midday.

Since the Resurrection the Lord's Day is Sunday, not Saturday.  This is made clear in Sacred Scripture.  Therefore, the Christian's obligation to worship his Creator pertains to Sunday, not Saturday.  Jews worship on Saturday, but for the Christian the Old Covenant ended when the veil of the temple was rent after the Crucifixion.
