Catholics/Sex

Question
Hi I'm a catholic and I wanna do the right things. First of all I wanna know if masturbation is a sin. Not to get away from a problem but just for pleasure or experiment. Also I wanna wait until marriage to have sex. Is this a good idea and does it matter if I give in before marriage but to someone I LOVE?
Thanks and Please

Answer
Good that you are intent upon doing what is morally right.
I am not a moral theologian.  So, I refer you to a local Catholic priest for detailed advice on the issues that you mention.
I also refer you to The Catechism of the Catholic Church, available online at
www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm.  The relevant paragraphs are 2352-53, which explain the objectively intrinsic and gravely disordered action of masturbation and the gravely contrary to persons and human dignity of sexual union between unmarried persons.
Prayer and the Sacraments are important aids in preserving chastity.
Best wishes, Drizzle
